Last night Trash Light Vision played the Underworld in Camden, London England.
Myself and my bassist Roger got to the club first, before they opened the loading doors or anyone else was there. Except a matenence guy.
Roger and I sat around bullshiting and listening to songs on my laptop untill everyone started to load into the club. At that time we stayed in the dressing untill soundcheck. Played 3 songs and walked back into the dressing room. Guess what was missing. The Matenence guy and my McIntosh G4.
So we locked down the club and got the clubs mamager. At which time he informed me that HE was the matenence guy, that no body who matched the description of this 'matence guy' was or has ever worked there and that he must have come in though the loading doors and that it's my fault and that I should be more careful. Keep in mind that the load in door at the Underworld is a fire exit that has a chain wraped around it with a pad lock. Not exactly a good safety measure in the event of a fire.
So here is the thing. This fuckin' scumbag was in the club-BEFORE IT OPENED. The sound guy confirmed that he club door was closed immediately after we brought our equipment in.
So now it's the next day and Roger and I are going to start going to the pawn shops to try to track it down. If anyone has any experience with tracking down stolen lap tops, I sure could use the help.
Second. Many of you are in the music business or have lap tops. This guy was walking around the club with walkie/talkie and flashlight wearing a uniform so I had no reason to question why he was back stage. So next time you see somebody who 'doesn't look like they belong backstage' question the person.
Not to sound dramatic, but that thing was my life and basicly my tool for music. So I'm screwed for a long time, heathy, alive and well, but screwed for a bit.
    Thanks,
    Acey

That's Camden for ya. A wretched hive of scum and villainy, as Obi-Wan described it.

The club surely has insurance covering third
party theft? If it hasn't, it's probably in
violation of this-or-that law, and so, is not
only vulnerable for a compensation claim for
the theft, but for allowing riff-raff access
to the building in the first place.

There are quite a few (legal) ways of following
this up without having to scour the dank back-
    streets of Camden's dodgy pawnshops.
